Electric Jeep Wrangler 4xe Revealed

Housed beneath the hood of the all-new Wrangler 4xe are two electric motors, a battery pack, and an 8-speed automatic transmission working in conjunction with a turbocharged engine. This powertrain is paired with the Wrangler’s famous and proven driveline, boosting the performance of the hybrid propulsion components. Diving deeper into the specifics of this powertrain, the eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission is paired with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and a 96-cell lithium-ion, 400 volt, 27 kWh, nickel manganese cobalt battery pack. 

The driver of the Wrangler 4xe has the ability to tailor the driving experience to their wants and needs based on the weather, terrain, and adventures. E Selec offers three modes of operation. These modes include eSave which saves the battery power for later, prioritizing the propulsion of the engine, Electric which uses all-electric power, zero-emission power unless the driver needs additional torque and finally Hybrid which blends the torque from both the engine and electric motor. The driver of the SUV can switch between the three modes using the buttons located near the instrument panel. No matter which of the three modes is being utilized, the Wrangler 4xe will operate using the hybrid powertrain once the battery is charged to at least the minimum level. 

It is clear that the Wrangler is the most capable off-roading vehicle on the market and the 4xe may boast a plug-in hybrid powertrain but it doesn’t impact its trail-blazing or rock-climbing abilities, in fact it enhances them! The seamless integration of the electric power and 4x4 drivetrain take the capabilities to a whole new level. The Wrangler 4xe is offered in four trim levels and each come outfitted with a full-time 4x4 system as standard. The Rubicon model is equipped with the Rubicon exclusive Rock-Trac 4x4 system while the first two trim levels come with the two-speed Selec-Trac transfer case.
